Brockhaus-Efron Jewish Encyclopedia Chigirin was a locality of the Kiev province and povet in the era of the Polish-Lithuanian
Commonwealth. Jews lived here until 1648, when Khmelnitsky's rebellion broke out. Ch. became the residence of the Hetmans.
Only by the end of the 17th century, did the Polish administration return to Ch. Jews settled again in Ch. in the 18th century,
however, in small numbers. According to the assessment of 1765, there were 66 Jews.
