Jews lived in Kh. already in 1565. According to the assessment of 1570, they owned 7 houses. On the fate of the Jews in the turbulent
years of the Khmelnytsky region and constant unrest in the second half of the 17th century, nothing is known. According to the 1765
census, there were 1,417 Jews in Kh. kahal and its congregations; according to the assessment of 1789, there were 38 merchants
and small shopkeepers, 53 tavern clerks, 43 artisans (mostly tailors), 3 wagon drivers, and 15 in domestic service.
